About Me

A bit about me, my education and training.

Background.

I was born in New Orleans, grew up in a suburb just outside the city, and received my education there. I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Psychology from the University of New Orleans and a Master of Social Work from Tulane University. I have been a licensed practitioner in the state of Ohio since 2000. Throughout my career I have held various roles, including direct service provider, supervisor, department/program director, and therapist. Just prior to branching out on my own in private practice, I worked several years on an inpatient psychiatric unit, supervising counselors who provided family therapy sessions for pediatric patients.  I have extensive experience addressing issues related to anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, infidelity, intimacy, parenting, attachment wounds, self-image, self-worth, stress management, life transitions, and family of origin.

Training.

I have undergone hundreds of hours of advanced training and supervision in Emotionally Focused Therapy. I’ve also had recordings of my therapy sessions reviewed and critiqued by certified EFT supervisors. All this has culminated in certification granted by The International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy. EFT gives me a therapeutic style that is grounded in attachment theory, is person centered, and highly validating. Outcome studies show that 90% of couples report significant improvements in their relationship using EFT. To learn more about this scientifically validated approach, visit ICEEFT.com. In addition to attachment theory and EFT, I also draw from the following approaches in my work: Strength-Based, Person-Centered, Family Systems, Humanistic, Experiential, Attachment-Based Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing.

Community.

I am a life-long learner and always looking for ways to increase my knowledge and skills as a social worker and therapist, such as completing a 72-hour relationship mediator training with Ohio State Supreme Court and guardian ad litem training with Summit County Domestic Relations Court. I have given back to the social work learning community by providing field instruction for master’s level students and providing supervision for social workers seeking independent licensure. I have also received social work awards acknowledging my professional growth and development, as well as my dedication, leadership, and motivation of others. Certification in EFT in no way means that the learning is complete, as I continue to invest my financial and time resources into advanced trainings yearly to ensure that I’m providing you with the highest quality, up-to-date treatment.

I am a member of the National Association of Social Workers and a member and certified therapist with the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy.
While work keeps me busy, I’m also a mom to three boys (two young adult and one teen) and love being outside (biking, hiking, kayaking) any chance I get.
